Saturday 10th November, 12pm - 2pm location - the area between the Coffee Cup and the Eastney swimming baths starting point : opposite the entrance to the Marines' Museum (PO4 9PX) i.e. opposite the Marine statue with the Union Jack.
As the fish and chip shop on the pier is closed, I'm afraid there will be no discounted food!
In total 29 volunteers collected 4014 items of litter from the 300 metre stretch between South Parade Pier and the Pyramids. The amount of litter found was the most of any of the six years for which records are available; it is also a record per head. The beach did seem to be dirtier than in previous years.
Full returns are available in the ‘Beachwatch Returns’ section of this website. Interesting items found include 6 shotgun cartridges, a knife, a cannabis grinder and a Blackberry phone.
Mid-September is the Marine Conservation Society's annual Beachwatch event, when volunteers across the country will be cleaning the nation's beaches. Our small contribution will be to clean the stretch near the Pyramids.
This clean will differ from the normal pattern in that we have to note what we find. This information is then collated nationally by the MCS.
